Round Rock Boys Compete Strong at Westlake Chaparral Invitational

The Round Rock boys cross country team turned in a strong performance at the Westlake Chaparral Invitational, competing against a deep field from across Central Texas.

Varsity Boys

The Dragons placed five runners among the top 31 finishers in the varsity 5K, demonstrating solid depth throughout the scoring lineup.

Senior Devansh Garg led Round Rock with an outstanding 7th-place finish in 16:30.44. Junior Gavin Shalem followed in 19th place at 16:50.60, giving the Dragons two runners inside the top 20.

Miles McDonald continued the strong performance, finishing 24th in 17:02.14, followed closely by Jake Marshall, who placed 29th in 17:09.09, and Zeke Guerra, who completed the scoring group in 31st at 17:11.21.

Round Rock's depth extended well beyond its first five. Ian Rockey finished 32nd in 17:11.65, Cameron Pav was 33rd in 17:14.06, and Henry Lynn placed 34th in 17:15.37. The Dragons placed eight runners among the first 34 finishers, with only 45 seconds separating their No. 1 and No. 8 runners.

That tight grouping was one of the most encouraging parts of the race and showed the developing depth of the Round Rock varsity lineup.

JV Boys

Round Rock also produced an impressive showing in the JV two-mile race, placing several runners near the front of a very large field.

Freshman Josiah Preston-Lakis led the Dragons with a strong 7th-place finish in 11:42.95. Senior Jacob Gomez followed in 13th place with an 11:54.59, giving Round Rock two runners inside the top 15.

The Dragons then packed three more scorers closely together. Ethan Lin finished 20th in 12:07.37, Brendan Horvath was 21st in 12:07.58, and Ishan Ved finished 31st in 12:14.46. Miles Bristow was just behind in 32nd at 12:14.81, while Josh Samuel finished 34th in 12:16.24.

Round Rock's JV depth was particularly impressive. Behind the scoring five, the Dragons continued to place runners throughout the front half of the field, including Ewan McEwen (39th), Luke Amensisa (45th), Reese Epp (47th), Arnov Dahr (48th), Fino Palacios (53rd), Rowan Adams (57th), and Ryan McGowan (66th).

Overall

The Westlake meet provided another positive step for the Round Rock boys. The varsity demonstrated a strong and compact group behind Garg, while the JV squad showed that the program has considerable depth developing behind the varsity lineup.

With eight varsity runners finishing within 45 seconds of one another and a large number of JV athletes competing near the front of their race, the results showed that Round Rock is continuing to build the depth necessary for success later in the championship season.
