Round Rock Boys Deliver Strong Performances at Seguin Matador XC Invitational

Dragons earn top-five varsity finish while JV dominates with team championship

SEGUIN, Texas — The Round Rock High School boys cross country program turned in another strong performance Saturday, September 26, at the 2026 Seguin Matador XC Invitational at Max Starcke Park, highlighted by a dominant victory from the junior varsity squad and a tightly packed varsity performance.

Varsity Boys

Round Rock finished fifth in the Varsity 5A-6A division with 194 points, placing just one point behind Antonian College Prep in a competitive field.

Junior AJ Dumpit led the Dragons across the finish line, completing the 5,000-meter course in 16:36.9 to finish 23rd overall. Senior Jackson Sanchez followed in 36th place with a time of 17:02.8.

Round Rock continued to pack runners together as sophomore William Blanchette finished 40th in 17:07.7, followed closely by senior Ian Rockey, who placed 44th in 17:10.7. Junior Blake Mickelsen completed Round Rock's five-man scoring group in 51st place at 17:19.7.

The Dragons' five scorers were separated by only 42.8 seconds, demonstrating the type of pack running that becomes increasingly important as the championship portion of the season approaches.



San Antonio Churchill led the varsity team competition, followed by McKinney Boyd and Lytle. Antonian College Prep edged Round Rock by a single point for fourth, 193-194.

JV Boys Dominate

The Round Rock JV boys produced one of the program's strongest team performances of the season, winning the division with an impressive 16 points.

The Dragons claimed the first four individual positions and placed five runners among the first six finishers.

Freshman Liam Nicholson captured the individual championship in 17:47.1, leading a remarkable wave of Round Rock runners across the finish line.

Freshman Miles Bristow followed Nicholson to take second in 17:53.9, while freshman Ewan McEwen secured third in 17:59.1. Freshman Josiah Preston-Lakis completed the Round Rock sweep of the first four places with an 18:01.2 performance.

After Comal Pieper's Logan Dee finished fifth, freshman Ethan Lin gave Round Rock its fifth scorer by taking sixth in 18:12.5. The 1-2-3-4-6 finish gave the Dragons a nearly unbeatable 16-point team total.

Round Rock's depth extended well beyond its five scorers. Freshman Peter Hanlon finished seventh in 18:17.7, and freshman Brendan Horvath placed tenth in 18:21.7, giving Round Rock seven of the first 10 finishers.



The performance was particularly notable for Round Rock's freshman class. The Dragons' top seven JV finishers included six freshmen, with freshmen occupying the first four positions individually.

Dragons Continue Building Toward Championship Season

With the district championships approaching, Seguin provided another opportunity for Round Rock to test its depth and develop its racing groups.

The varsity squad demonstrated solid pack strength with five scoring runners under 17:20, while the JV squad's commanding championship performance showed the depth developing throughout the program.

The Dragons will now turn their attention toward the final stages of the regular season as they continue preparations for the UIL District Championships on October 14.
