Leo Brasil Captures Individual Championship as Round Rock Wins Both Varsity and JV Team Titles

CEDAR PARK, Texas — The Round Rock High School boys cross country program delivered another impressive display of depth Saturday morning, sweeping both the Varsity and Junior Varsity team championships at the 2026 Cedar Park XC Invitational.

Competing against a strong field of Central Texas programs, the Dragons placed five runners among the first 17 finishers in the varsity race and an impressive five runners among the first nine in the JV race.

The performance provided another indication that Round Rock's strength extends well beyond the front of its varsity lineup as the Dragons move closer to the championship portion of the season.

BRASIL LEADS VARSITY TO TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Junior Leo Brasil gave Round Rock the individual victory, crossing the finish line in 15:37 to capture the Cedar Park Invitational championship.

Brasil battled San Antonio Antonian senior John Boland through the front of the race before earning the victory. Both were credited with 15:37 performances in the official results.

Behind Brasil, Round Rock packed four more scoring runners between 16:43 and 17:02.

Senior Zeke Guerra finished 11th in 16:43, followed immediately by junior Gavin Shalem, who placed 12th in 16:46.

Junior Anthony Dumpit continued the Round Rock surge with a 13th-place finish in 16:52, giving the Dragons four runners among the first 13.

Senior Jackson Sanchez completed Round Rock's five-man scoring group, finishing 17th in 17:02.

The result gave Round Rock a five-man scoring spread of only 1 minute, 25 seconds, with runners two through five separated by just 19 seconds.

The Dragons accumulated approximately 54 points, finishing ahead of Georgetown East View and a deep large-school field that included Cedar Park, Vista Ridge, Leander, Antonian, Cibolo Steele, Hendrickson, Mission, Vandegrift and others.

Round Rock's varsity victory was particularly impressive because the Cedar Park lineup did not include several athletes who have occupied positions near the front of the Dragons' lineup earlier this season.

The result once again demonstrated the depth that has become one of Round Rock's greatest strengths in 2026.

VARSITY DEPTH CONTINUES

The Dragons did not stop with their five scoring runners.

Sophomore Jake Marshall placed 19th overall in 17:04, finishing just two seconds behind Round Rock's fifth scorer.

Junior Henry Lynn crossed in 17:22 for 28th place, while senior Ian Rockey finished 37th in 17:39.

Sophomore William “Charlie” Blanchette finished in 17:54, and senior Cameron Pav crossed in 17:58.

The performance gave Round Rock 10 runners under 18 minutes, another important sign of the program's depth entering the second half of the season.

Round Rock's top five averaged approximately 16:36 for 5K.

The ability to place four runners between 16:43 and 17:02 behind the individual champion gave Round Rock the type of compact scoring group that becomes increasingly important in championship racing.

JV DRAGONS DOMINATE

If the varsity performance demonstrated Round Rock's strength, the Junior Varsity race demonstrated just how deep the program has become.

Round Rock placed five runners in the top nine, including four of the first seven finishers, to capture the JV team championship.

Junior Blake Mickelsen led the Dragons with an outstanding third-place finish in 17:59.

Senior Simon Baldwin was right behind him, finishing fourth in 18:01, while junior Oliver Veselic also recorded 18:01 to take fifth.

The Dragons then added freshman Liam Nicholson, who finished seventh in 18:21, followed by freshman Ethan Lin, ninth in 18:26.

That gave Round Rock scoring places of 3-4-5-7-9, producing approximately 28 team points.

Georgetown East View was the closest challenger with a scoring group of 2-6-8-22-24, leaving Round Rock with a substantial advantage.

Even more impressive was the Dragons' scoring compression.

Only 27 seconds separated Round Rock's first and fifth JV runners, while the group's five-runner average was approximately 18:10.

WAVE OF MAROON FOLLOWS

Round Rock's depth continued well beyond its first five.

Sophomore David House placed 13th in 18:41, freshman Peter Hanlon followed in 14th at 18:44, and senior Jayden Gomez finished 15th in 18:52.

Senior Ishan Ved was 16th in 18:54, senior Noah Hill finished 17th in 18:56, and freshman Brendan Horvath was 18th in 18:57.

Freshman Arnov Dahr then crossed 19th in 19:10.

That meant Round Rock placed an extraordinary 12 runners among the first 19 finishers in the JV race.

The Dragons also had 13 runners among the first 23 when freshman Ewan McEwen finished in 19:18.

The strength of the JV performance gives Round Rock something every championship-level program wants — competition for positions.

Athletes throughout the lineup continue to push for opportunities, and Saturday's results showed that the Dragons have numerous runners capable of contributing at a high level.

BUILDING TOWARD CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON

Round Rock has made a point of racing against quality competition throughout the 2026 season.

Cedar Park represented another important step.

The varsity Dragons showed they could win with a tightly packed scoring group behind an individual champion. The JV Dragons showed that the depth of the program extends far beyond seven varsity positions.

That combination — front-running ability, scoring compression and program depth — becomes increasingly important as the Dragons approach October.

Every position will matter.

Every runner will matter.

And with championship season approaching, Round Rock continues to develop options throughout its lineup.

The Cedar Park Invitational was another strong performance, but the Dragons' larger goals remain ahead.
