Andy Shantz

Coach Shantz brings more than two decades of collegiate and high school coaching experience to the Round Rock High School girls basketball program. Before joining RRHS, he spent 19 years coaching men’s basketball at Colorado Mesa University, serving five seasons as head coach and 14 as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator.

During his tenure at Colorado Mesa, Shantz helped the Mavericks capture three RMAC championships, seven RMAC West Division championships, one Rocky Division championship, and four berths in the NCAA National Tournament. His impact was also evident in the individual success of the athletes he helped recruit and develop, including three RMAC Players of the Year, 15 First Team All-RMAC selections, 44 total All-Conference players, and 30 Academic All-Conference honorees.

Shantz joined the Round Rock girls basketball staff as an assistant coach in 2022. During his three seasons in that role, the Dragons qualified for the UIL playoffs each year and set a program record with 30 victories during the 2024–2025 season. In his first season as head coach, he guided Round Rock to a 24–8 record, a tie for second place in district, and the program’s fourth consecutive UIL playoff appearance.

A graduate of Colorado Mesa University, Shantz also played for the Mavericks. He was part of the 1994–1995 team that finished 20–9, won the RMAC championship, and advanced to the NCAA National Tournament. As a senior in 1996–1997, he started all 28 games and helped lead the Mavericks to a 21–7 record and an RMAC West Division championship. He ranks eighth in program history in career three-point field goals made.

Drawing from his experience as a player and coach, Shantz is committed to developing confident, accountable student-athletes and building a program centered on teamwork, strong relationships, and pride in representing Round Rock High School. Coach Shantz and his wife, Molley, have been married for 22 years and reside in Round Rock with their two children, Khalil and Guy. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and traveling.
